Trauma-Informed Practices for Educators

Learn how to recognize the signs of trauma, enact interventions to repair harm, and create effective strategies to communicate, resolve conflicts, and build relationships with students..  In this course, educators will learn how to effectively incorporate TIP into their practice to help students feel regulated and relationally safe so they can absorb academic content more effectively.  Topics include:

  • Understanding the neuroscience of learning (including dosing stress, heterogeneous stress response, and the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME)

  • Creating trauma-informed lesson plans

  • Applying effective interventions

  • Executing de-escalation strategies

  • Utilizing schools as a buffer to trauma

  • Understanding relational sensitivity, mirror neurons, and how your way of operating your classroom/school may be impacting your students and colleagues

Restorative Practices for Educators

Gain a full understanding of the theories behind the practices that make Restorative Practices (RP) effective. In this course, educators will learn how to effectively incorporate RP into their practice to improve climate and culture.  Topics include:

  • Using affective language to better communicate with students

  • Understanding your behavior management style

  • Utilizing RP tools to shift to a restorative behavior management style

  • Understanding how shame can impede learning

  • Utilizing re-integrative shame to build positive climate and culture in your classroom

  • Utilizing circles to build community

Create instruction centered around building conceptual understanding of mathematics by exploring the importance of language, contextual relationships, multiple perspectives, and making connections between ideas.  In this course, educators learn a variety of topics, including:

  • Investigating and building upon your own experience with learning math at a deeper and more meaningful level
