Restorative Practices (RP)
RP is "an emerging social science that studies how to strengthen relationships between individuals as well as social connections within communities."
WHP offers dynamically tailored Restorative Practices (RP) training and professional development in person or virtually, and is designed with site and/or district-specific needs in mind. Please contact us to learn more.
Individual educators can also access "Restorative Practices for Educators," an online self-paced training through UMASS Global to learn the content and participate in a variety of activities at their own pace. In this course, educators will learn how to effectively incorporate RP into their practice to improve climate and culture. Topics include:
-
Using affective language to better communicate with students
-
Understanding your behavior management style
-
Utilizing RP tools to shift to a restorative behavior management style
-
Understanding how shame can impede learning
-
Utilizing re-integrative shame to build positive climate and culture in your classroom
-
Utilizing circles to build community
-
And more!
(Continuing Education Units (CEUs)/Professional Development hours awarded upon successful course completion.)

WHP has provided basic and extensive restorative practices to support students, parents, teachers, and administrators, as well as effectively holding restorative circles to prevent conflicts, restore harm, and facilitate open communication to allow students to be the best they can be. Specific circles have been facilitated to eliminate bullying, prevent future verbal and physical fights among students, and help students struggling with sexual and/or gender identity issues.
